Last Call for New Orleans Matchmaker – October 1, 2006:
We have approximately
50 seats left for the first ever Post Katrina matchmaker to be held
in New Orleans at the Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO)
campus located at 6801 Press Dr., Bldg 43 on Sunday, October 1
during 2:00PM – 5:00PM. This matchmaker is sponsored by
SUNO Small Business Development Center, the Housing
Authority of New Orleans (HANO), the New Orleans Regional Black
Chamber of Commerce and the National Black Chamber of
Commerce. All contractors, engineers and developers interested
in projects concerning HANO are invited to participate. The
intent is to gather a base of companies to compete for work
involving the multi-billion dollar rebuilding endeavor for
affordable housing in the city of New
Orleans. This provides
a perfect opportunity for companies outside of New
Orleans to come and meet and
network with the existing companies located within the
New
Orleans city limits.
Partnerships and collaborations are encouraged. There is no
fee to register but registration is mandatory. Simply email
your company name, contact, address, email, names of people
attending and NAICS to president@nationalbcc.org. Space is limited
and the final agenda will be emailed to registrants on Friday of
this week.

CEO Watch: We congratulate Aylwin
Lewis, African American, for his upcoming second anniversary as
President and CEO of Kmart. We look forward to learning more
about the positive impact this will have for small businesses
wishing to pursue opportunities with Kmart. On another front,
the class action discrimination suit against Merrill Lynch & Co.
moves on. CEO Stanley O’Neal, African American, will be called
to give a deposition on Nov. 1. According to plaintiff lawyer
Linda Friedman, “It is necessary to call on O’Neal to testify,
because as chief executive he is chiefly responsible for the
policies that define the company’s culture.” It should be
noted that Mr. O’Neal is doing this without resistance. Many
times CEO’s aggressively resist depositions.
